Online Book Stores

Borders

Borders

I like this site cuz I can look up a book and they will tell me weather or not it's in stock in the Borders Stores near me. Great Idea!

Half.com

Half.com

A great place to buy and sell out of print books.
Half.com the sister site of eBay.

Amazon.com

Amazon.com

The more I use their site, the more they suggest good books for me, and the more I want to use their site. Somebody over there is thinking.

Audible.com

Audible.com

Here you can download audiobooks online, and burn them to a MP3 player, CDs, or just listen to them on your computer.

My Favorite Local Book Stores

Note: All these stores have great Staff's Picks sections too.

Book Passage

Book Passage

They have tons of events with authors and stuff. As a result they usually have a good selection of autographed books. They've really pulled up the slack since Clean Well-Lighted Place left Marin.

Copperfield's

Copperfield's

A great Book Store in Peteluma, but they also have stores in other towns around California (this is actually the link to the Sebastopol store). I really like their New Sections (especially their New Non-Fiction Section). They've turned me onto some great books.

Stacy's

Stacy's

Located in Downtown San Francisco, Stacey's Book Store has a wonderful selection of Business Books (the best I've seen so far). But they aren't just for the business minded, they're a great Book Store to boot.

a clean well lighted place for books

This used to be the best book store in Marin till they had to close up shop. Now they just have a store in San Francisco, but they're still as good as they ever were. Their online autographed book section is one of the best.

Cody's

Cody's

The great Book Store in Berkeley. Right on Telegraph Ave. 5 blocks from campus. I have found stuff there I wasn't able to find anywhere else. Colleges seem to have that effect on stores.

The Buildres Booksourse

The Builders Booksourse

The whole store is full of building books. From Architecture and Design to Urban Building Codes. I am always surprised how many books I want to buy from this place. I have gotten some great lighting and commercial interior design books from them.

nciba

nciba

The Northern California Independent Booksellers Association. This is a great place to look up stores near you if you live in Northern California.

Book Sense

Book Sense

A collation of Independent Book Stores. All the independents have banded together across the country to help keep each other from getting crushed by the big chains. If you buy a gift certificate from them, you can use it at any one of the participating members.

UCLA

UCLA

An incredibly crappy Website, but an amazing Brick and Mortar Shop. Every single time I go in there I end up wanting to buy something. One of my favorite Book Stores of all time (and they just added a Skateboard Section so I can buy cool clothes there too).

Book Shelves

The Hidden Door Company

How fricken cool is that!!!
